What is MDM?
Mobile Device Management (MDM) is a technology used by organizations to manage and secure employee devices. When enabled, MDM profiles can restrict device functionality, enforce security policies, and control app installations.
The "Remote Management" screen appears during device setup when an MDM profile is enrolled. This is common on devices previously owned by businesses, schools, or purchased second-hand.
When MDM Bypass is Needed
MDM bypass becomes necessary in several scenarios:
- Purchased a used device — The previous owner did not remove the MDM profile before selling
- Company liquidation — Business closed without releasing device management
- Lost access to admin credentials — Cannot contact the original organization
- Personal device enrolled in work MDM — Need to remove without losing personal data
MDM bypass only removes Remote Management profiles. This is different from iCloud Activation Lock, which requires a separate solution.
How UnlockMDM Works
UnlockMDM removes MDM enrollment profiles by modifying system configuration files during the device setup process. The tool works on:
- iPhone 5S through iPhone 17 Pro Max
- All iPad models
- Mac computers (Intel and Apple Silicon)

Step-by-Step Process

- Connect your device — Use a USB cable to connect your iPhone, iPad, or Mac
- Register your device — Enter your serial number to activate the license
- Start the bypass — Click "Remove MDM" and wait for completion
- Complete setup — Your device will restart without the MDM profile
After the Bypass
Once the MDM profile is removed:
- Set up your device as new or restore from backup
- Install any apps without restrictions
- Use all device features normally
- Update to newer iOS/macOS versions (bypass remains active)
If you factory reset your device in the future, simply run UnlockMDM again using your existing registration. Re-bypass is free for registered devices.
Important Considerations
Before proceeding with MDM bypass, keep in mind:
- Ensure you have legal ownership of the device
- Back up any important data before starting
- The bypass does not remove iCloud Activation Lock
